How To Teach your Guitar Students To Reach Their Guitar Playing

One error that new guitar teachers often make while learning how to teach guitar students is they allow them to take control of the way lessons are taught. How do they do this? In most cases, the guitar teacher will ask the student what they want to learn, and then base their guitar instruction off of the student’s idea of what it takes to learn that particular idea on guitar.

For example, if you ask your student what their main goal is with guitar and they say “to become a great guitar solo player”, there are many ways you could approach helping them to reach this goal. However, the student may think that in order to accomplish this, they should focus only on playing scales over and over. As you can imagine, the student does not fully understand what it takes to reach their goal (this is why they are the ‘student’), so you need to help them reach their goal while teaching them using your own teaching methods.
