One of the most commonly held beliefs for musicians is that one should go to school and get a music degree in order to have a music career. Getting a music degree can be helpful in many ways for you as a musician; however, it does not guarantee a successful music career. In fact, on its own, a music degree will do very little for you if you’d like to become a professional musician.
While attending a university for music, it is NOT very likely that you will learn many crucial (non musical) aspects of the music business. Maintaining a successful music career means much more than simply being good at playing an instrument or composing music. Read more about this to see if attending music school is right for you in a reply I sent to one of my students who asked “Should you go to music school for a career in music?”
