The most important skill you need in order to play amazing lead guitar is the ability to play with great guitar phrasing. Guitar phrasing is knowing 'how' to use all of the guitar techniques you have practiced in a way that sounds musical. Guitar players who play with great guitar phrasing will always stand out amongst the majority of other musicians due to their great melodies and memorable riffs.
Once you get in the habit of doing this, you will see siginificant progress in how your guitar playing sounds even if you never improve your guitar technique or learn anything more about music. Watch this video where I show one of my students how to play lead guitar using great guitar phrasing.
